This final round of auctions brings together Silicon Valley?s brightest innovators, including Sean Parker, who co-founded the pioneering file-sharing computer service Napster. Parker raised the initial $50,000 and along with his partner, launched Napster in June 1999. Within a year, the service had tens of millions of users. Napster has been called the fastest growing business of all time, is credited with revolutionizing the music industry and served as a precursor to iTunes. He was also the first president of Facebook as well as co-founder of Plaxo, Causes and Airtime.
In 2006, Parker became managing partner at the Founders Fund, a San Francisco-based venture capital focused on investing in early-stage companies such as in Quantcast, Path, and Knewton. Parker is an active philanthropist including raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research.
The auction, designed as working lunches and ?jam sessions?, also includes three of the top product designers turned founders in Silicon Valley such as Gina Bianchini, Jason Putorti and Brian Chesky
Gina Bianchini was an early pioneer in social software, beginning work in this area in 2004 when she and Marc Andreessen co-founded Ning (http://www.ning.com), the first and largest social platform for interests and passions online. She served as CEO of Ning from its inception to March of 2010, at which time Ning had 90 million monthly unique visitors, 46 million registered users, and 300,000 monthly active social networks across entertainment, politics, education, and interests.
Currently, Bianchini is the CEO and founder of Mightybell (http://www.mightybell.com), a new social platform seeking to revolutionize how online groups form, organize, and grow around interests, passions and goals in 2012 and beyond. Gina has been featured on Fortune Magazine?s ?40 under 40,? Huffington Post?s 10 technology ?Ultimate Game Changers,? and 7?7 magazine?s ?Hot 20? list.
Jason Putorti is the co-founder of Votizen, a Founders Fund company built to disrupt the $10B American political industry by delivering votes to candidates at lower cost through social media instead of big media. Votizen aims to break the cycle of big donors and special interests to deliver better politicians, and a better government to the American people. Before co-founding Votizen, Jason was the first designer hired at Mint.com in 2007 and held the lead designer role until Mint?s acquisition in 2009, when he became the Designer-in-Residence for Bessemer Venture Partners, the first to hold such a role at a major venture capital firm. He?s a founder advisor to SV Angel, and advises or has invested in many startups in Silicon Valley. In January 2012 he was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 for social media and mobile.
Brian Chesky is the co-founder and CEO of Airbnb, one of the fastest-growing startups in the world, and quickly disrupting the hotel and vacation rental industry buy allowing people to rent their extra rooms, couches, homes, tree houses, and much more. Airbnb is widely regarded as industry leading in user experience design from the browsing process all the way through the interactions with the Airbnb hosts. Before Airbnb, Brian ran an industrial design shop in Los Angeles; even these days he is rarely seen without a drafting pen and sketchbook in hand.
